Charlottesville is a beautiful quaint city in central Virginia. It’s home to the University of Virginia, with its core campus designed by Thomas Jefferson. Also located in Charlottesville is Virginia Health System is an academic health care center associated with the University of Virginia.

There are several tourist attractions minutes from Charlottesville and surrounding counties. Jefferson’s mountain-top plantation, Monticello, includes the original mansion. Highland, President James Monroe’s home, retains many original furnishings. The city is a gateway to Shenandoah National Park, along a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Fun fact, the legendary Dave Matthews began his band while bartending on the Downtown Mall and today regularly plays sold out shows in Charlottesville.

Museums and Historical Homes

Charlottesville and Albemarle County are home to several historic sites, including the homes of three of the country's founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and James Monroe's Ash Lawn-Highland plantations outside Charlottesville. James Madison's Montpelier is just 30 miles away.

Also consider visiting the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, Kluge Ruhe Aboriginal Art Museum, and Michie Tavern ca. 1784.
